You’re Invited Part III

Matthew 11:28 (KJV) Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Even after accepting the invitation to salvation, there are a lifetime of invitations to trust God with more of yourself and your life. There is always more of Him to experience. There are also many traps set in place to deter you from depending fully and solely on God.

The enemy constantly sends his invitation. In those moments, ask yourself, what good is a false sense of comfort that you have to sin to obtain? The ultimate result of sin is death, and he knows that. It seems to cost nothing up front, but it will cost you everything on the back end.

What does accepting Jesus’ invitation look like? It looks like depending on God instead of something else. It’s not seeking God-like qualities from other things. Engage with God. Give Him your worries, fears, needs, desires, and struggles with sin. Trust Him enough to confide in Him about your most vulnerable thoughts and emotions.

Depending on God will also cost you too. Unlike other vices, His invitation doesn’t lead to instant gratification, but it does lead to rest. At first, it can be uncomfortable not having all the answers. You’ll have to surrender. You’ll experience the pain, feel your feelings, and give them to Him instead of trying to run away. You’ll have to confront your wounds and issues. Healing isn’t always quick or without discomfort. His invitation doesn’t lead to “easy” paths, but you will find that he mends broken hearts and satisfies deep longing in a way that nothing else can. He is faithful to walk with you hand in hand through everything. He comforts you. As your Creator, He knows exactly how to meet your needs.

You will experience his love in ways that convince you He is enough. Idols numb the pain for a while, but sooner or later, you’ll have to feel it. These things have no way of giving you true peace of mind. They have no power to heal. This isn’t to say that hobbies, interests, or stress relievers are inherently wrong. It is to say, don’t place your faith in these things. There are many good outlets God has given us. I once heard a speaker say we should place our hope in the Creator, not the things He has created. While He uses many methods, He is the source.

Every single day, God’s invitation is waiting for you. Could this be the day that you say yes?
