You’re Invited Part II
The Holy Spirit provides a way of escape when you’re tempted to not depend on God. When you’re faced with the old familiar path you’ve taken time and time again, He invites you to follow Him down a better one.
Galatians 5:16 (KJV)
This I say then, walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
The flesh invites you to engage in all the wrong things in hopes of finding what you need.
Galatians 6:19 - 21 (KJV)
The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery; idolatry and sorcery; hatred, discord, jealousy, and rage; rivalries, divisions, factions, and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Each invitation leads you down a path that produces specific results. Receiving the invitation of the flesh may feel satisfying for a while, but the end of it is destruction. The goal is to set you up for a lifestyle of not following God. It gives the illusion that there is a better way outside of God.
All of these other ways are sin and those who practice them will suffer the consequences. On the contrary, God’s invitation produces the fruit of the Spirit.
Galatians 5:22-23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
We can’t allow the hardship of life to drive us into the arms of false comforts and forbidden lovers. Don’t let guilt or condemnation make you believe that Jesus’ invitation is not for you. God wants YOU – all of you, even when you’ve sinned. He wants you to come to him in repentance. He wants you to accept His invitation.
